I last month I miss-keyed my cell phone number. If any dojo leaders need to contact me my phone number is 217-652-9769. Call before 10:00 PM central time if you need anything.
May and June have been busy. I went to the Seishinkai gasshuku in Rock Eagle Georgia. I had not expected to teach but was asked to lead a Saturday morning session on Kakie. This was a review of some of the things I taught last year. I was pleased at the level of retention some of the students demonstrated. It was an excellent gasshuku. There were about 60 karate-ka in attendance. Everyone trained hard. It is inspiring to see karate-ka from an organization with less than half the US membership of the GKK get so energized. There were campers from California, Arizona, Illinois, Virginia, West Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Georgia in attendance.
I am going to be doing some traveling in July. July 9th through the 14th I will be in Troy, Michigan. I may or may not have internet access. I am in hopes that my laptop will be setup so that I can reach the internet from the hotel room. Your best bet at reaching me during this time period will be telephone. Just do not call between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. We will be unavailable during that time.
Our GKK Summer Gasshuku will be the weekend of August 24th, 25th, and 26th. Last year we trained in Kentucky. There is an announcement in this month’s newsletter with some hotel information. Of the available hotels the Baymont Inn is the best deal. The Baymont offered us a good discount on their block of rooms. The facilities are a lot nicer than the Ramada and the Baymont gave us the lower price ($62.50 plus tax). To get the special room rate tell them that you are with the First Church of the Nazarene Karate event. It is my understanding these rooms will be available at this rate until 1 week before the gasshuku. I would book your rooms sometime this month. There is also a Motel 6 at the same interstate exit. The Motel 6 would be the least expensive lodging option.
I would like to get a general headcount prior to the camp so that we can get everyone fed Saturday afternoon. If you or any of your students plan on attending please let me know. It would be nice if we could get a headcount by August 1st.
As usual we will be taking and reporting black belt attendance.
If any dojo leaders are interested in bringing students to the camp for testing please let me know.
If anyone has any questions about anything related to the August camp let me know.
Take care, be safe, and have a good month.
