First International Shotokan Karate Championship Sri Lanka 2007

By D.K.Withanage, Sri Lanka G.K.K. Headquarters, Sri Lanka Goju-Ryu Kyokai

The first International Shotokan Karate Championship Sri Lanka 2007 was held in Colombo on July 8th. This competition was held according to W.K.F. rules and regulations. Any form of Karate was permitted. Several countries participated in this event.

I was able to include two of my students, W.M. Damith Bandara and R.G.T.S. Madurawala in the competition. I am very happy to say they came out with flying colours and won three first places (GOLD) in the event.

W.M. Damith Bandara Wijekoon  placed first (GOLD) in the Kumite event (Weight Class 70-75 kg) and R. G. T. S. Madurawala  placed 1st (GOLD) in the Kumite event (Weight Class 50-55 kg) and Kata event.

It was a great honour and achievement for our association.
