Teruo Chinen recently celebrated forty years of teaching karate in Spokane, WA.  He has written an autobiography titled Forty Years of Chamber describing some of his experiences during that time.  It is a wonderful accounting by this knowledgeable and unassuming gentleman of his life to this point and his ideas for the future.

    We of the GKK have had a long and beneficial relationship with Chinen Sensei and offer our heartfelt congratulations on this and all of his accomplishments.

Mr. Ed Soliven has been training in karate-do for over 35 years and has been teaching for over 25 years.  He has trained in karate-do, jujutsu and kobudo. He is currently the senior black-belt instructor at the GKK’s Visalia Karate-Do in California. He has trained and taught karate-do in Okinawa while a serving as a Combat Corpsman in the US Navy.  He is a former member of the Yamaguchi Goju-Kai and the Hayashi-Ha Goju-Ryu Kai.  He brings a wealth of knowledge to the Visalia Karate-Do, and is highly respected by all who train there.  He is a definite asset to the GKK family.

On December 18, 19, 20, the Visalia Karate-Do, in California, will be hosting a Goju-Ryu clinic featuring instruction from Yamakura Hanshi.  Additionally, Yamakura Hanshi will be testing more that 10 students for Black-Belt promotions.  There will be a banquet with awards and promotions.  All GKK members are invited.  Those who are interested should contact Dan Taylor at;  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it for additional information.  The Visalia Karate-Do plans to make this seminar an annual event.
